What makes the sound recorded on the disk superior?

A relatively new form of recording to reach the home is the compact disk. The disks themselves and the disk players require very precise and controlled manufacturing methods. There are three main features of compact disks which make the quality of the sound obtainable from them superior. The first is that sound is recorded and played back digitally. The second is that unlike the stylus, the recording head of a tape recorder, the device used to “read” the sound does not actually touch the disk. This removes the danger of damage to the disk and prevents the usual wear and tear. The third is that special circuitry corrects errors on the disk. These features combine to improve the sound quality and the lifetime of the disk.
