What do miniature clay dolls focus on?

Miniature clay dolls are valued for their size and elaborate detail. Most of the figurines stand only about one inch high, tiny enough to be held comfortably in your palm. These dolls focus on the Thai way of life and portray such delightful subjects as Thai vendors with boatloads of fruit, farmers in paddy fields, Chinese roadside food vendors, ordination processions, Thai sports, children’s games and miniature fruits. The doll maker first, kneads clay which has been carefully cleaned of foreign substances. With this, the torso, hands, legs and heads are shaped. Fingers, toes, eyes, ears and mouths soon emerge from the expert incisions on the clay with a sharp-pointed knife. Another thin layer of clay, applied over the torso, becomes the clothes or robe. When each doll has been given the final touch, it is left to dry naturally and later baked for a few hours and painted in oils.
